Sweet Pickles

I have had nothing to post lately until I discovered this jar of sweet pickles in my pantry. I didn't even know they were there. I guess Berti brought them to our reunion party. Well, let me say that I am glad I found them. They are delicious!  I don't know how she knew that I love pickles.

We have some real culinary talent in our class. Berti's pickles and Barbara's strawberry jam not to mention Larry's asparagus.  None of these last long at my house.

If any of you have a special dish that you would like to share, send me your recipe or photograph. Even better, send me a sample.

Following is an update to this posting.

I told you that the pickles were good. I ate them all. They lasted two days.

Wedding at Brunswick Plantation

The wedding was originally to be outside. Due to the weather it had to be moved inside. It was still a beautiful wedding.  The bride, Megan Finnegan, is Becky's niece's daughter.  The groom is Michael Sanchez.

This is my son in law, Matt Powell, my youngest daughter, Lindsay, who is expecting my third grandchild in October and my oldest daughter, Kristen Murphy.  Did I mention that it is another boy?

Following area pictures of the other two boys.

Wedding Party

,It has been raining since we arrived at Brunswick Plantation near Calabash on Thursday. As I am writing this on Saturday morning, it looks like this outside
Pouring rain again!  Our 8:30 tee time has been washed out.

We are here to attend the wedding of Becky's niece's daughter on saturday. Becky, of course, had to throw a wedding party last night by the pool. Fortunately it stopped raining just long enough for the event then it started raining again.

Following are some photographs from the party. There were about100 people there. It turned out to be a very nice evening. I was the part-time bartender and unofficial photographer.

The food table. If you know my wife, she sometimes goes a little bit overboard.  If anyone needs an event planner, let me know. I will be glad to rent her out.  I must admit, however, that it was very nice.

S'mores on a stick.

The groom's cake.

Pool and some of the guests.

The wedding is scheduled for 6:00pm. Outside!  Maybe we will get lucky again.

Robert Lawrence's 4th of July Weekend

Robert sent the following pictures and commentary. If you have never been to the Washiington/Pamlico River area, you have missed a very beautiful part of North Carolina. Max Henries took me sailing near Blounts Creek a couple of weeks ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

COMMENTARY

"The fishing on Blounts creek is really good. I've attached a few shots taken last week. We went out on the boat down to Washington to view the fireworks, the show was fantastic, but getting back in the dark was quite an adventure. We caught a stingray that put up quite a fight. The shot of our boathouse in Blounts creek, we do most of our fishing from the dock. The shot of the porpoise was taken as a pod traveled up the creek. The Osprey nest is just up the creek as it enters into the Pamlico."

Thank you Robert for the great photos. I'm sure your classmates  enjoy seeing them as much as I do.

I encourage others to share their experiences with the class. Anything will do. Maybe a new grandchild or great grandchild. Have you taken any trips lately?  What did you do on the fourth?  Hope to get more posts like this one.  Much better than stuff I post.

Dining in Beaufort

Saturday Night at the Miller's in Atlantic Beach

Some of the best seafood I have ever had was served by the miller's Saturday night. They had every thing you could ask for and it was all delicious.  A great time was had by all.

Speckle Trout fresh from the pan.

Steamed Crabs

Mexican Cornbread by Barbara was the best I have ever had.

After the feast, we enjoyed the evening by the water.

Trout

The speckled trout are beginning to bite a little. Caught this 15 inch trout this morning.

This is the only one I caught. Enough for a couple of fish tacos.
