Rex Matthews

Some of us have changed very little over the years.  Others have changed quite a bit.  I think Rex may fall into the latter catagory.

Now honestly, would you have recognized Rex today?  I like both looks.

Photographs from Cecil Bowden

Following are photographs that Cecil Bowden had from the 50's and 60's

Fresh out of boot camp

I guessing this picture was taken in the late 50's

A new 1961 Ford taken in November of 1960

Most farmers would kill hogs when the weather turned cold in the fall.  Neighbors would help with the slaughter and it might take two days to kill the hogs, cut up the meat, put the hams and shoulders down in salt and grind and stuff the sausage.  This was a common sight in the old days.  You never see this any more.

Looks like Cecil and maybe his older brother Jerry on the bike.

Picture of Baseball Players

Looks like Melvin Hughes, with Rex Matthews in the middle and someone I do not recognize on the left.
If anyone can identify these players please let me know.  This picture was taken well over 50 years ago.

Three in Front of Teacherage

This photograph was taken in the front yard of the old school with the teacherage in the background.

Berti Day on the left and Sue Owen on the right.
Is that Bill Banks in the middle?
The date at the top of the photograph indicates December, 1958.

Crawford's Market

Does anyone remember going into Crawford's Market and buying a pack of baseball cards or maybe a nickel grab bag.

The Market is long gone.  It stood about midway the block between Talton's Drug Store and Byrd's Hardware.

Mr. Crawford and his wife were always nice to me and I very much looked forward visiting their store.

If you were lucky, you might look across Broad street and see the old Durham and Southern steam locomotive going through town.

The Class Reunion at Tony's 2009

Following is the best group photograph I have of our last class reunion.

It was a good turnout.  I counted 35 in the photograph.
