Sailing on the Pamlico with Max

Barbara's husband, Max, was kind enough to invite me sailing on his 26 foot sailboat on the Pamlico. Friday was a beautiful day on the river though the weather in Angier was stormy. We had enough wind so that we could sail rather than use the motor.

Max's friend, Randall, helps hoist the sails.

Wind Damage on Montague Road

We had strong winds at my house on Montague Road in Angier Thursday afternoon. Becky was at home at the time and called me in Morehead City to say that some of the furniture on the back porch had been blown around. She said that the wind only lasted a few seconds and it was gone. She did not see any damage to our home or property.  She also mentioned that the power was out.

She later got in the car and drove down the street to find significant damage at my uncle John Montague's house across the street.  These are very large old oak trees that played under as a child.

My cousin Gene  and his wife live here now.

My nextdoor neighbor, Mack Fowler, also had a couple of trees blown down.

We were very lucky!

Nice to see that you can still enjoy life when you turn 68.

Cape Lookout

The weather was perfect for a run up the coast to Cape Lookout Saturday. My oldest daughter Kristen, her husband Sean, grandsons Brendan and Eamon and Becky took a picnic lunch and had a great time. We came back on the inside by Harkers Island and Shackleford Banks. The Cape is one of my favorite places.  This brings back memories from my younger days and creates memories for my grandboys that they will remember long after I am gone.

Guess Who

I saw this rich and famous couple eating at Finz in Beaufort. Do you know who they are?

It's summertime at the beach and time to enjoy life to its fullest. Don't let the summer slip away without taking time to be with good friends at a place that you dearly love.

Hope you all have a wonderful summer.

Barbara's Reunion Pictures

After considerable effort, Barbara got these pictures to me over the Internet. I won't bother to explain who is in the pictures. If you don't know by now, you are ready for the rest home.   I think these were all taken at my house. I think she has more from Saturday night that I will post later.

By the way, the small yellow and red thing on the pie stand behind Barbara is a whirlygig. It was made by Vollis Simpson of Lacama, NC. Vollis is a well known folk artist with whirligigs in many folk art museums around the country. The city of Wilson has built a whirlygig park in his honor and State of North Carolina has named the whirlygig the official folk art.

We met Vollis a couple of years ago when we purchased the little whirlygig. He passed away last week at the age of 94.  See following link.

Weekend Attractions at the Beach

There will be two free concerts this weekend at the beach. Panyelo, steel drum band, will be at the Jaycee Park in MHC and Chris Jones will be at the gazebo on the circle at Atlantic Beach. Both concerts are on Saturday evening.  I hope to be at one of these.

The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament starts Friday with the lady's competition. The main event starts on Monday and lasts until Saturday.  I can't afford the cost of the $18,000 entry fee not to mention the boat and crew, but it is fun to follow their website and go to the weighins.

Son in Law and Daughter

This is Matt and Lindsay Powell, my daughter. We are sitting in the Hermitage Hotel bar.  They are expecting their first child in October. We just found out that it is going to be a boy. FYI, that's a nonalcoholic drink she is drinking.

It's a really nice old hotel. Couldn't afford to eat or stay there, so we just had a drink and left.
